When Lisa Marie asked me to contribute an altered bottle project to her blog, I was so excited! I’ve been drooling over the wonderful mixed media examples that are popping up all over. I was more than delighted to give it a try myself. Here is my mixed media altered bottle that I made using a bottle I found at the dollar store.
This glass oil / vinegar set I found in the dollar store for only $2.50, so that was a total bargain. I didn’t use the dispenser top, just one of the glass bottles.
The bottle was coated with a couple of layers of gesso, followed by gel medium. Stencils and modelling paste added some texture, then I finished with a thick layer of crackle medium. The crackles looked awesome when I started building the patina with ColoriQue. My favourite colour palette is Verdigris, Honey Bee, Turquoise Mountain and Poppy. It creates an absolutely beautiful vintage vibe.
The main embellishment on the bottle is a resin sculptural blank from Relics & Artifacts. ColoriQue is the perfect medium, as it colours the white resin wonderfully. Use ColoriQue Sealant on top of the colours to give a glossy finish.
The finishing touches for my bottle are a crystal from an old chandelier, and some mini mirror tiles (another dollar store find!) I love the way the light catches the facets of the crystal. Some paper flowers with touches of ColoriQue adds some more texture to the finished piece.
