This DIY Palm Tree Photo Frame is a fun way to showcase your favorite beach or tropical vacation photo.
Using a dollar store picture frame makes it an inexpensive project. When the project is finished no one will know that the frame was from a bargain store. I adorned the frame with a painted brass stamping. Because this theme was tropical I used a palm tree, but you can use any stamping to customize your frame.
Supplies needed to make this DIY Palm Tree Photo Frame:
- Dollar Store Frame
- Earth Safe Finishes Chalk It Up, Cheesecake & Rock Candy
- Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paint: Classic Teal, Landscape Green, Traditional Tan, Sable Brown
- Palm Tree Brass Stamping
- Small Paint Brushes
- Small Sponge Brush
- Clear Coat Spray
- Fine Grit Sandpaper
How I Did It:
Paint the frame with a coat of Chalk It Up Cheesecake paint. Let paint dry. If a second coat is needed apply and let dry. Apply Rock Candy paint to the frame using a dry brush method. (Apply small amount of paint to the brush and then remove most of the paint onto a paper towel prior to brushing on frame) Add enough of the Rock Candy paint to highlight the frame. Allow paint to dry.
Using the fine grit sandpaper, distress the frame to allow the original black frame color to show through the paint. Seal frame with a coat of clear coat.Wash the raw brass stamping with soap and water to remove all traces of oils and dirt. Dry completely. Paint the palm tree as shown using Claudine Hellmuth Studio paints.
When paint is completely dry, apply a coat of clear sealer. Glue the painted palm tree to the bottom corner of the frame.Add your favorite beach or tropical photo to the frame and you’re done! This also makes a great gift for someone who just returned from a tropical vacation.
